We asked Bev from Flamingo Toes 16 quirky questions! This crafty blogger spills her biggest DIY fail, and shares some great ideas for inexpensive home projects. Head on over to Flamingo Toes for some creative DIY projects, and to read the rest of this interview!

What’s your DIY weapon of choice? That’s tough because I love to do so many different things but if I have to choose one I’d pick my sewing machine. You can do so many things – apparel, home décor, jewelry, gifts, and more!

What are 3 words to describe your blog? Colorful, Vintage, and Fun (I hope!)

Tell us about a time when you had a DIY fail (we’ve all had them!) I once tried to make a fluffy rag t-shirt wreath, which was an error in judgment to begin with. I spent hours cutting knit fabric into little strips and tying them onto this giant metal wreath frame. And about halfway through I realized I was creating some sort of sad, limp, shabby, gray hula hoop for a really tiny two-year-old. I stuck it in the back of the closet and did my best to pretend it never happened.

Words of wisdom for someone remodeling on a budget?
As tempting as it is to want to do everything on a big budget, or go over budget (for me it is anyway), you really can decorate so much of your home by having a diy sort of attitude, and being willing to wait for the perfect piece to come along. I am so much happier with my décor when I’ve found just the right thing than when I’ve rushed things and tried to find something to just “fill the spot.” Sometimes that means stalking sales, and sometimes it means hunting through craigslist for something close to what I want and then redoing it! It’s definitely worth it though. If you have pieces that you really love and have put effort into, that will make the whole space feel more put together and homey for you.

How did you become interested in blogging?
Like a lot of bloggers I started out my blog because I wanted to keep a record of my projects and ideas. I really didn’t anticipate anyone else reading it; I might have squealed when I got my first comment that wasn’t from my family. I’m amazed at how the diy blogging world has exploded since then – it’s such a great resource for anyone out there wanting to be creative!

Strangest decoration in your house?
Well that’s a tough one, I’m not sure about strange but I do like quirky and fun decorations in the house – it makes things so much more fun. I don’t know that too many people would want to line the tops of their kitchen cabinets in globes though, and a have painted wooden flying pig on the wall in the kitchen. 🙂

Hardest part about blogging?
For me the hardest part is probably the “business” of blogging. Doing all the behind the scenes things that actually keep the blog running and easy to use are so important, but I’d much rather be sitting down sewing or making a new necklace.

Best part about blogging? The best part of blogging would have to be the fact that I get to create projects every week – as. my. job. I mean seriously, this is a dream job and one that I am so thankful for everyday! A close second would be when someone shares photos of projects they’ve made from one of my tutorials. It’s so fun to see people recreate things from my ideas, and put their own spin on them too!
