We asked Ashley from Cherished Bliss 16 quirky questions! This Texas-based blogger gives us some DIY tips, and shares the inside scoop on what it’s like to be a blogger. Head on over to Ashley’s blog for some great DIY projects, and to read the rest of this interview!
What’s your DIY weapon of choice? I’d have to say these days I’ve been using my sliding miter saw quite a bit. It is such a versatile tool that allows you to work with many different sizes of wood, and is pretty much vital when building furniture!
What are 3 words to describe your blog? Simple, Cherished, and Blissful.
Tell us about a time when you had a DIY fail (we’ve all had them!) Ah yes, we all have fails. I don’t know that I’ve ever had a HUGE fail, mainly because I am pretty slow in my process and I catch all my failures as I go. With that said I don’t think I’ve ever finished a project from start to finish with my original idea. I am constantly having to change courses because of mistakes I’ve made! Mainly from cutting wood the wrong size! I’m kinda horrible with double checking measurements. I should probably work on that! But I would say I experience DIY fails of some sort for every project ; )
Words of wisdom for someone remodeling on a budget? The more work YOU put into your projects, the more money you can save! Never underestimate what you are capable of, you will surprise yourself! Something might seem complicated when looking at the big picture. Look at the big picture and then focus on each individual step, one at at time.
Farmhouse Cottage Kitchen Makeover
How did you become interested in blogging? It all started when I had my daughter. I’ve always loved working with my hands and was very involved in building sets in high school theatre. When I had my daughter I turned a bit Suzy Homemaker! I originally started out by making cute girly things for her. Personally, I was never a girly girl and so I was super excited to play dress up with her! It eventually evolved from an etsy shop into a blog. We have moved all around the country over the last few years and are finally homeowners again! I finally feel like I’m finally able to share what I’m most passionate about: DIY projects and building with my hands!
Strangest decoration in your house? To be completely honest my house isn’t fully decorated yet. Like I said we moved a lot, so we never really had time to decorate. After being married for 6 years and finally settling down, we are just getting started! But, strangest decoration might be a really old metal basket that I found at a Goodwill Outlet store (which is awesome by the way). I’m pretty sure it was from a grocery store.
Hardest part about blogging? Keeping up with it all. If you aren’t familiar with running a blog, it sounds simple, but it’s anything but! You are a writer, editor, photographer, stylist, personal shopper, marketing specialist, social media expert, and so much more! When you throw being a staying at home mom into the mix you pretty much feel like you are at your wits end around the clock! It would be VERY easy to spend 80+ hours a week on a blog, so making sure to balance it all is definitely the hardest part!
Rustic Industrial Master Bedroom Reveal
Best part about blogging? My absolute favorite thing about blogging is getting responses from people who were inspired to do something after reading one of my posts. At the end of the day, my goal is to help inspire women and let them know that they don’t need to have a small fortune to turn their house into a home. Yes there are some things that can end up costing quite a bit, but I hope I present it in a way so others see it as a manageable process to get through! Nothing is done overnight. People always comment that my house must be beautiful and always perfect. It is FAR from that. My dining room is completely bare. So don’t let the pictures full you… everything is a long process here too!
