Bathroom Remodel

Mar 2014

This was a job where a contractor left the job and took the homeowners money. When I examined the bathroom and found out what had been done, there was no option but to gut the room and start over. We had to remove everything, including the plumbing work that the other contractor installed. We had to install new supports and level the floor. We also installed new water and drain lines. The homeowners decided to cut costs and not go back with a free-standing tub. We installed a steel enamel tub and built a knee wall to support the fixture. The house was built in the early 1900's and used heat lamps to heat the area. The owners liked the lamps and wanted to keep them. So we removed the wiring to them and just re-installed the fixture. We also kept the existing soap dish. We installed a vent line and wiring for the new fixtures, insulated the walls, installed cement board for the tile and installed drywall. Then we tiled the floor, walls and knee wall. Installed wainscoating and new trim. Painted, installed the new fixtures, and caulked. The bathroom looks great and should last for many years!

Porch Renovation

Mar 2014

This house was built in the early 1900's and the porch roof was starting to come down. The roof was leaking and had rotted out the support across the front of the porch as well as the columns. The roof had a railing that was original to the house and the owner wanted the new railing to be identical. We custom made the railings and used plastic lumber for the supports with treated lumber for the railings and slats. We also had to change the support for the roof and buy 2 new columns. The bases and caps to the columns were rotted as well, so we had to have new one made. We used plastic lumber for the fascia board and installed recessed lighting in the cover for the beam across the front. We also installed a rubber roof with a walkway so the owner could set a ladder on it to clean the gutters on the house roof. This project was a challenge due to all the hidden problems that we didn't find out until we got into repairing it.
