Patio Cover Houston - Briar Forest Area

Feb 2015

Backing up to a lovely green space and Buffalo Bayou, this home only had a paver patio that was in disrepair, and no shade to enjoy the beautiful views. A new gable roof patio cover provides ample shade, while an outdoor fireplace, outdoor kitchen, and Travertine tile floor turn this area into a spectacular outdoor living room. The gable roof allows for this soaring vaulted ceiling that includes tongue & groove pine and cedar beam accents. The outdoor fireplace is faced with multi-color flagstone and has a stout hemlock mantle. The fireplace burns real wood and has a gas starter. The dry-stack stone is topped with granite counters. The backsplash is a glass tile. The kitchen has a 30″ grill, refrigerator and sink, plus extra storage space. The flooring complements the different stones used on the fireplace and kitchen. The Travertine is laid in a Versailles pattern.

Award Winning Outdoor Living Space

Jan 2012

This project in Richmond takes advantage of the home's acreage, a space under the patio cover and some additional patio space outside the cover. The project includes a gas-log fireplace that can be lit by remote control a wood-burning firepit and a sizeable outdoor kitchen with tons of built-in seating. The pine ceiling and cedar trim are both stained with a Cabot Heartwood stain, providing a contrasting darker color on the trim. The stamped overlay is a Roman Slate pattern with a Texas Star in the walkway to the gate. Electrical wiring is included, with recessed can lights on a dimmer switch, under-counter lights on the kitchen, carriage lights on the columns, and coax for TV and speakers. The homeowner did a great job of furnishing and tastefully decorating the patio! We built this project in the 45 to 65K range.

Pergola Royal Oaks

May 2016

A beautiful retreat in Royal Oaks – Houston. A large pergola with an outdoor kitchen and multi-levels. TRAVERTINE PATIO LEADING INTO THE OUTDOOR LIVING SPACE A beautiful way to blend the yard into the living space. There are sitting walls all around the space to define the patio from the yard. The low-voltage lighting creates a nice atmosphere for entertaining. MULTI-LEVEL LIVING SPACE Giving the space an extra design perk is the multi-level flooring. The deck is a composite deck with accent lighting and is a great place to relax after a long day at the office. The travertine tile patio gives the project an upscale and clean look. COMPLETE RELAXATION The pergola allows for filtered sunlight to come though onto the space. Fans installed allow the homeowner to have a continuous breeze. OUTDOOR KITCHEN A small but very functional kitchen allows for grilling and clean up and has plenty of storage space. RIGHT OUTSIDE THE DOOR Placing the kitchen right outside the door to the home, allows the homeowner to easily move food and dishes from the indoor kitchen to the outdoor kitchen. Space planning is important when considering what type of project needs to be built. DINNER OUTSIDE? Absolutely! The dining area is just off the kitchen and has a great view of the back yard. This 650 SF cedar pergola has it all – comfort and beauty!

Friendswood Outdoor Living Space

Feb 2016

This Friendswood homeowner wanted to add a large covered living area off the back of their home. It was built off to the side because of the bayed windows that existed on the home. TIME TO ENTERTAIN The outdoor kitchen that was added has a great bartop area with low voltage lighting under the counter. CEILING AND STONE CHOICES The ceiling is stained tongue and groove wood. The columns, firepit and kitchen are finished with Austin white limestone. OUTDOOR KITCHEN The outdoor kitchen has lots of counter space and an ice maker that produces “Sonic” ice — what a great feature. FLOORING DETAILS The flooring, both under the cover and all around the pool, is a Travertine tile laid in a Versailles pattern. A RETREAT FOR YOUR FAMILY A great “Staycation” addition to this home.

Poolhouse - Outdoor Kitchen & Fireplace

Jul 2015

This stucco pool house was designed to be a freestanding patio cover and to look original to the home. To meet HOA requirements for this large structure, it needed to be attached to the home. The foundation was poured with a raised elevation and a different color of stamped concrete to set it apart from the pool deck. Space is plentiful for grilling, entertaining, dining and conversing by the fire. BREEZEWAY ATTACHMENT The HOA would not allow a freestanding structure of this size, so the pool cabana was connected to the house with an attractive breezeway LIGHTING AND ENTERTAINMENT The patio cover has a complete entertainment package, including television and speakers. Recessed lighting, directional lighting, decorative column lights and ceiling fans accent each area within the space. OUTDOOR KITCHEN This kitchen includes a raised bartop, large grill, sink, trash drawer, refrigerator, ice maker, a separate buffet, and plenty of storage. The fascia of the kitchen is a Texas limestone. Counters are granite. FIREPLACE The fireplace has a gas log set and turns on and off with a flip of a switch. Stone fascia is a limestone with some nice color variation.

Patio Cover The Heights - Houston

Jun 2015

The homeowner wanted to build an outdoor living room that blended with the neighborhood’s strict guidelines per Historic District requirements in the Historic Heights area of Houston. It had to be designed and built to look original to the home. DETAILS, DETAILS, DETAILS… The vaulted ceiling is painted tongue & groove with built out beams. This design continued the original style of the home to meet the specifications of the Historic District. COMPOSITE DECKING AND RAILING We installed a grey composite deck that was tied into the existing foundation and added white accent trim and railing. FIREPLACE WITH BARN DOOR COVER FOR TV The fireplace was built taking into consideration existing design with a two tier format to be able to add in stone with cohesive trim carpentry to be able to “close off” the television when not in use. A PLACE TO RELAX… Time to get cozy in front of the fireplace with great book or a group of friends to watch a game… one would never believe they are in the middle of a big city. PATIO AND FIRE PIT An additional stone firepit and travertine pad was installed to create additional outdoor living space just a few steps from the covered patio.

Outdoor Living Room Montrose - Houston

May 2015

This 1929 bungalow only had a wooden deck in the backyard of a small lot. Some creative use of space and unique finishes added over 400 square feet of modern living space to the home. The project includes a patio cover that ties into the existing roof, a composite deck, a fireplace and an outdoor kitchen. This stunning ceiling is a clear, smooth cedar with a natural finish. That finish was chosen to highlight the natural color variation in the cedar. The ceiling was framed to allow for the change in directions of the ceiling finish. The center was vaulted for the placement of an impressive chandelier and some indirect lighting. The vaulted area is finished with decorative tin. The small kitchen features a FireMagic Diamond Echelon Grill with a “magic view window”, as well as a refrigerator and storage. The fascia of the kitchen is a charcoal colored slate. The counters are Super Quartzite. A basket-weave backsplash and low-voltage lighting add a nice decorative detail. For durability and low-maintenance, composite decking was chosen as the flooring. This was also a practical consideration as the house is on a pier and beam foundation. The railing is custom-designed and powder-coated to match the steel posts of the patio cover. Step lights illuminate each level change on the deck. The fireplace and two electric heaters can take the chill off during the winter, while ceiling fans help move air year-round. A mosquito-misting system lines the perimeter of the yard and patio cover. The entire space is well-lit allowing for many options. Several fixtures are dimmable. The gas fireplace continues the theme of creating a contemporary outdoor living space with a long horizontal opening that is see-through. The fascia is two shades of gray slate with some of the basket-weave that was used in the backsplash of the kitchen. The top of the fireplace is the same Super Quartzite that was used for the kitchen counters. The bottom of the fireplace is filled with glass beads and artificial river rock. The ceiling was furred down to the top of the fireplace so a television could be placed that is protected from the elements. This project was in the 80 to 100K range.

Outdoor Living Room The Woodlands

Dec 2014

This handsome outdoor living room has a spectacular outdoor kitchen designed for a true meat-lover with a gas grill, smoker and warming drawers built in. The vaulted ceiling is finished in tongue & groove pine with hardieplank trim. The columns have a stone base with cedar up to the beam. Decorative carriage lights illuminate the existing pool and enhance the view from the patio cover. The wall in the corner for the television is finished with brick to match the home, plus a stone to add some variety and color. The wall provides privacy and style to the patio with some graceful arches. The homeowner provided a custom smoker that we built the kitchen around. The brick fascia matches the home and granite counters provide a durable surface. This project was built inn the 75 to 95K range.

This beautiful outdoor living space is in the heart of the Memorial area in Houston. A quiet retreat tucked in among a very busy city. A wood burning (or gas log) fireplace that has a reclaimed hemlock mantle is the perfect place to be sitting next to on those chilly days and nights.
