Hurt Architecture & Planning is a small, full service architectural firm specializing in custom residential design, as well as the design of secure homes. As reflected by our project photos below, we design both new homes and renovation / addition projects in a variety of architectural styles.   | Lake Lure Residence | Sep 2011 | A massive 24-foot diameter arched window frames the gorgeous view from the living room across the lake toward the rock cliffs beyond. The home is built on three levels. The main and upper levels are completely new, but as they were built over an existing basement structure, the project is in that sense a renovation. Natural and man-made materials were combined to create an elegant and dramatic yet very comfortable home. This project won the Best In American Living Gold Award from the National Association of Home Builders for 2013. | Chrisman Residence | May 2005 | This very unique, eclectic 5000+ s.f. home is sited at the top of a knoll with incredible views in all directions. The house has a working observatory, and the 45 ft. tall concrete telescope mounting pier passes through, but is not attached to the structure in order to ensure that vibrations are not transmitted through it. The dramatic spiral stairway is supported only at the top and bottom, and wraps around this pier without touching it. | $2.5m | Black Mountain, NC |
