Porch Pro Talk: Contractor or Pro – What’s the Difference?

Welcome to Porch Pro Talk, a weekly hypothetical question sourced from our own pros’ experiences that explores the day to day issues of being a contractor. With this forum, we hope to create a place where pros can communicate with one another and in the end, utilize the opinions they find here to better their own business.Because our business is working with those who maintain, remodel, and build homes and structures, we always trying to stay up to date on the vocabulary of the trade. Through hires and consulting with our network we’ve tried to lock in the tone of the industry, but there are still some terms that we’re not quite sure how to approach. One of these is the distinction between a \”contractor\” and a \”home professional\”. From a nube point of view (one we’re trying not to express) the difference can seem minuscule, if not non-existent, yet we know certain people have definitive opinions on what each term means.

THE QUESTION

So we want to know from those in the business: what is the difference between a home pro and a home contractor? What are the factors that go into this distinction? Is one better than the other?Tell us in the comments!
