Sedona Foothills South Remodel

Mar 2015

When you're the new owner and the existing landscape is full of design flaws and drainage issues, sometimes its best to tear everything out and start over. That's what we did here with a yard that that had a patio that did not drain, old railroad ties, too much river rock to handle the drainage and hodge podge plantings. We added a seatwall that served as a retaining wall to handle most of the drainage, added a natural boulder waterfeature, expanded the grass area and created a patio space that is inviting and flowing. The existing gravel driveway was replaced with pavers and connects to the backyard.

Hummingbird Garden

Mar 2015

Having lived there for the last 15 years, the clients wanted the backyard to be more than just a small patio looking out onto a grass lawn. We added a natural stream course style water feature that took advantage of the slope and created two patio areas to view the waterfeature. Paver circle patios were added under the canopy of the existing trees that captured the feeling of sanctuary. Of course, most of the new plantings attract hummingbirds as does the water flowing down the stream course. The waterfeature originates on the upper part of the grass, then disappears under the grass through a pipe and re emerges at the lower paver sitting area.

Amara Resort & Spa Landscape Renovations

Jul 2014

The Amara Resort and Spa is a boutique hotel owned by Kimton Hotels and Restaurants and is located in the heavily visited uptown district of Sedona, Arizona. Catering to the upscale visitor, Kimpton purchased the property about a year ago and began major renovations including the exterior grounds and landscaping. JSL Landscape LLC was engaged to perform a much needed landscape makeover. Since JSL Landscape is a design and build landscape construction firm based in Sedona, the corporate decision makers decided it was a good fit for their needs. The before and after pictures show why it needed a makeover.

Eagle Mountain Ranch Sedona New Home Landscape

Jun 2014

Working on the landscape design before the home breaks ground is ideal and requires a collaborative effort between the architect, the owner and the general contractor. This project had restrictive HOA conditions such as a building envelope, the use of native plantings, no perimeter fencing essentially limiting the more manmade landscaped area to within private courtyards. The landscape was covered with a type of shredded green waste that served as our ground cover. Low chisel cut rock walls line the paver driveway.

Second Home in Sedona

May 2013

Having a client who is an architect building a second home can be challenging when their design preferences guide the process. This landscape included a terraced backyard patio with built-in bbq island and fountain. As a second home, the maintenance concerns were an issue, so primarily natives were used in the plantings. In the front yard, a small flagstone sitting area was situated next to a cactus and succulent garden.
