New Construction

May 2007

This ten thousand square foot residence commands a panoramic view of Sonoma Valley from the West Sonoma Mountains. Harmony with the natural environment was a key objective of the design. Veneer stone walls and reclaimed redwood siding combined to give the project a rustic elegance and worked to weave the mass of the structure into its hillside setting. Windows, skylights and light courts all work together to provide a constant connection with the outside environment from every room in the house.

This single family home on Pacific Heights balances minimal, modern aesthetic with a contextual, urban design approach in order to create an expression which is refined and well suited to its neighbors. The house gives to the street with rich materiality and lush gardens, while creating privacy and a sense of being in an urban oasis. Light filters into the spaces of the house through a series of planted areas, translucent panels and windows and doors. The interior of the house maintains an emphasis on spaces for the display of art while featuring the equally stunning views toward the bay. This reinterpretation of the classic Victorian home strikes a careful balance between enclosure and space for interaction and transparency to the engage the city beyond

Complete Renovation

This house combines simple materials and rhythmic structural elements to create a unique courtyard home and urban oasis. This renovation project, completed in 2010, upgraded the structure and envelope of the house while maintaining the aesthetic of its unique, minimal curtain wall system. New materials such as limestone in the courtyard and bronze for rails and gates were carefully selected to maintain harmony with the design of the original structure. New elements such as skylights and open stairways were introduced to create additional dimensions of light and transparency to this elegant home
