Welcome to Porch Pro Talk, a weekly hypothetical question sourced from our own pros’ experiences that explores the day to day issues of being a contractor. With this forum, we hope to create a place where pros can communicate with one another and in the end, utilize the opinions they find here to better their own business.
You completed a job one week ago. The customer verbalizes their satisfied, yet still hasn’t paid even though they agreed on the price, and have no legitimate excuses for being tardy with payment. You’ve since moved onto another job, but need to procure their payment so you can cover basic expenses and payroll.
How do you handle this situation? Do you apply a lien on the homeowner? Collect your materials? Threaten small claims court?
