Porch Pro Talk: Drawing the Line in Extreme Weather

Welcome to Porch Pro Talk, a weekly hypothetical question sourced from our own pros’ experiences that explores the day to day issues of being a contractor. With this forum, we hope to create a place where pros can communicate with one another and in the end, utilize the opinions they find here to better their own business.

SITUATION

The day’s manifest has you (and your team if applicable) working outside all day. The morning news predicts your region’s extreme weather of choice (heat, cold, snow, rain, wind, all of the above) will be present all day. Sure enough, as you make your way to the job site, said weather is making its presence known, and will be punishing the job site throughout the shift.

QUESTION

Do you call the work day off? What are the conditions you would need to experience to make that call? How would you handle the billing? What are some conditions you’ve worked in before and deemed unsafe?
