Fireplace Plug

Nov 2013

Stop valuable warm air from leaving your home and minizing drafts from your fireplace. Some heating experts claim that an unlit fireplace with a damper open can increase heating costs by as much as 30 percent. Now that could add up to $500 over the course of a season. The Large Chimney Pillow Fireplace Plug Draft Stopper is an inflatable urethane pillow measuring 38" x 16". It is quickly and easily installed in the fireplace just below the damper level. The Chimney Pillow Draft Stopper can be adapted to work in almost all fireplaces. Even if you have an unusual construction, the Draft Stopper can be successfully installed in less than 2 minutes. Well, here's a solution that's relatively inexpensive, easy to install and pretty much invisible.

Attic Access Hatch

Nov 2013

Install an energy efficient attic access. Due to the recent IRC and IECC Code changes it may be difficult for Architects, Builders, Contractors, Remodelers, etc. to select an attic access solution for residential use that meets the new Building and Energy Codes: 2009 IECC Section 402.2.3 and 2009 IRC Section N1102.2.3 and 2012 IECC Section R402.2.4 reads: "Access hatches and doors. Access doors from conditioned spaces to unconditioned spaces (e.g., attics and crawl spaces) shall be weatherstripped and insulated to a level equivalent to the insulation on the surrounding surfaces." Energy Star Version 3 requirements conform with the 2009 IECC and 2009 IRC. The 2012 International Green Construction Code conforms to the 2012 IECC. These Code requirements mean the attic access pull down ladder or access hatch must now be insulated to the same level as the rest of the attic (minimum R-30). Our E-Z Hatch attic access door is your attic access solution that meets these new Codes. It is important to note that R-5, R-10 attic ladders do not meet Code - they must be insulated to minimum of R-30. if your project includes an attic pull down ladder please see our Battic Door R-50 attic stair cover kit.
