Many issues identified in a home inspection are routine repairs and/or inexpensive to correct. Good home inspectors usually help their clients to determine which issues are “cheap and easy” and which issues may require correction by professionals (and are more expensive). Good inspectors also help clients to understand which defects are potentially hazardous. Every year there are thousands of chimney fires in the United States resulting in many deaths, and millions of dollars in damage. Virtually all of these fires are preventable with proper yearly inspections. Recommend that your clients have all of their chimneys cleaned and inspected annually by a qualified chimney sweep. The original services from the 1920’s and 1930’s had fuses on both the hot wires AND the neutral wires. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but it’s now considered a dangerous practice. If a fuse on a neutral wire blows, current with energy will still be present in the circuit which could hurt or kill someone who unknowingly completes the circuit to ground with their body.
