Sams Handyman Service PLUS

Sam’s Handyman Services Plus was paid a total of $10,550. The project began on 3/5/2018. Never finished and left a big mess!! 1. Demolished kitchen bar cabinets and existing small island. 2. Built a 4 X 7 kitchen island with with exterior/roofing plywood. The frame was crooked, the drawers don’t fit the frame. 3. Painted kitchen cabinets (chipping) 4. Installed 4 can lights that hung below the ceiling level 5. Raised the dining room fir to kitchen cabinet height, instead of ceiling height 11.5” higher. Only after his worker demo’d the frame work and hit the load bearing beam did we find out the “scope of work” contracted for could not be done. We have since learned that when the 3” were cut off of the beam the entire structural integrity of our home is compromised. He should have known this and told us. The bottom of the walls were not finished to the floor. When we brought up replacing the baseboard that was removed during the bar demo, he said it would cost us more. On Monday 4/2, Sam came to discuss our dissatisfaction with the project he was told our appliances would be delivered on 4/4 and our countertops would be installed on 4/5. On 4/3 I reminded him the appliances were scheduled for delivery. On 4/4 he called and said he won’t have anyone wait for the appliances. I understood, but there were still several things (9 items)still left to be done. On 4/5 Sam contacted us about the appliances. I told him the countertops were being installed. After identifying our dissatisfaction with the job. Sam sent an invoice for $2050 in work done outside of the original “scope of work” and he would not return to finish the job until we agreed to pay him! The kitchen was left unusable! HomeAdvisor ended their relationship with Sam’s Handyman’s Services Plus after we filed our complaint with supporting docs. As part of their contract with Sam, we were offered free arbitration. Sam refused. It will cost $8,450 more to fix/finish the job to code!!
