Jefferson Avenue Center - Landscape Design & Installation (pt. 1/3)

Nov 2016

The Jefferson Avenue Center is a nonprofit organization which owns and operates a number of historic and newly developed properties that support a community of nonprofit organizations in central Ohio. Our project involves providing 3 buildings on Jefferson Avenue campus with landscaping. The first of the buildings is a Carriage House previously belonging to one of the historic homes and currently serving as the Executive Director's office, among other things. Having been declared a historic landmark, our mission is to bring natural landscape elements to the buildings which add beauty and interest, but stay true to the heritage of the site. Our lead contractor, Erek Tilbury, has researched the buildings' histories and landscape techniques/styles/content relevant to those times to ensure a completed project worthy of the Historical Society's approval. The entire project utilizes Native plants and their close genetic relatives to further authenticity. PHASE 1 - The Carriage House - Soil amendments added / testing to be completed for the planting area - Native plant species selected during the Design stage; located and procured through local growers/nurseries - Plant material to include 1 med/large ornamental dogwood tree; 1 young shrub to be pruned into tree form; several screening shrubs; and various perennials to mask an A/C unit and provide additional interest/flowering in the space. - All of the above completed by Erek Tilbury of Grow, etc. approx. 3-weeks.

German Village Backyard Becomes Beautiful

Aug 2016

The focal point of this backyard, making up the entirety of the lawn's far end boundary, is the front of the garage. While the homeowners previously added some elements that gave character to an otherwise dull and "expected" space, they wanted more. And the space deserved it. Incorporating one of the homeowner's favorite hobbies - bonsai - onto a custom pedestal of raw stacked granite and limestone (among other elements!) did just that. Character, interest, and originality is exactly what they got!
