Outdoor Living in Newton, MA

Sep 2020

There’s no time like the present to turn your bleak backyard into a beautiful oasis. Now that everyone is spending more time at home, maximizing your living and entertaining space has never been more important. This Auburndale, MA home previously had a small set of stairs leading out to a desolate yard. What was once a bare backyard with a tired stone patio, is now the ultimate outdoor living space that can be used year-round. Our team built a set of gradual stairs leading from the inside of the home out to the new living space consisting of a firepit and covered eating pavilion. The outdoor living patio made of bluestone pavers sits on the left side of the yard, and in a circular shape. In the middle of the circular patio is a gas-piped fire pit perfect for enjoying the cooler fall weather. To the right of the patio, our team built a new eating pavilion with a covered pergola, creating a functional yet beautiful outdoor eating space. Our clients wanted this new covered outdoor eating area to be usable rain or shine! For this space, our team used pressure treated wood finished with a natural stain, topped off with a rubber sealant on the top to protect from the New England elements. What brought this project together was the beautiful landscape designed by Linda Herman. The whole space was connected by a meandering path of small pebble stone, really tying together all of the elements. Surrounding the entire yard were beautifully placed flower beds, and shrubbery. At night, the low voltage landscape lighting perfectly illuminates the space, making it a great place for entertaining day or night!

Exotic Tigerwood Deck in Concord, MA

Sep 2020

This Concord home had an existing multi-level wraparound covered porch in the front of the home that needed maintenance. The homeowners brought Tom Curren Companies in, to add on a new matching deck to their backyard and do a few touch ups in the front. These decks are both made with unique Tigerwood boards and surrounded by crisp white PVC Trim. Using Tigerwood results in a beautiful end-product, but requires meticulous and specific maintenance – on the existing front porch, this is all that was needed. We applied a fresh coat of Deckwise Natural Ipe Oil to maintain the beautiful rich colors of the exotic wood boards and painted the PVC Trim with Benjamin Moore white latex paint. In the backyard, our clients wanted a replication of the beautiful space in the front, with a few additional distinctive details that set this deck apart from any others we’ve built. We created a symmetrical deck off of the french doors in the back of the home, allowing ample space for outdoor living. Tigerwood tread stairs were placed off the front of the deck with two sets of encased metal grating stairs off to the side. Because of the nature of this exotic wood, it’s important to consider the deck pitch, and ventilation to aid with water run off. Discreetly mixed into the decking boards on this deck, , there is a thin strip of Carbochon cast iron trench grates that are strategically placed underneath the slight roof overhang to manage the water roll-off. To make use of the surrounding materials, our team relocated pebble stones that were already in the clients yard, to prepare the ground underneath the deck for water flow and irrigation. This stunning deck is rich in color, and the high level of craftsmanship is very apparent. The tiniest of details are truly the highlight of this project. From the iron trench grates, to the matching wood staircases for easy access to the ground level, this new deck adds another level of sophistication to the home. Working with exotic woods and high-end materials always results in a beautiful product adding value to the home, as well as happiness to its owners.

May 2018

Our new clients desired a sleek, modern deck for their Wellesley Hills home. Our crews first task was to demolish the original deck -- removing all of the wood decking, balusters, railings and newel posts from the deck and staircase. New Azek 5/4”x6” Slate Gray decking were installed with a beautiful Mahogany horizontal slat railing system. Two coats of stain were applied to the railings, along with new coats of Benjamin Moore paint on the deck joists, support column, lattice work and concrete walls along the homes foundation.
