Carpet Stretching

My carpet is over 20 years old, has stains that won't go away, and is a bit of an eyesore. Should I be concerned about it being a health hazard as well?

Lake Stevens: Thank you for contacting Porch. The longevity of carpet depends on many items, including quality and if it has been regularly cleaned. Keeping dirt out of the mat helps the carpet last longer. 20 years is about the life expectancy of a good quality carpet. You might consider replacement. You can contact carpet experts here: https://pro.porch.com/near-me/carpet-cleaners or call us at 1-855-707-0141 to get started. ... Read more

Installing on Cement and laminate floors

Tiffany: Thank you for contacting Porch. When installing vinyl on concrete it is a good idea to use a bonding primer first. A professional vinyl floor installer would generally use a weighted roller at seams. You might try placing something heavy on the offending areas for 24 hours and see if that helps. If not, it may be time to contact a professional flooring contractor. I have an old system, and I'd like to keep it running as long as possible.

Thank you for contacting Porch. First, if your system is 30+ years old you might consider replacement as newer technology is much more efficient and safer, regardless of fuel used. If your system is oil burning it must be serviced annually or it will not perform well, and you risk smelly failures. A fuel gas system would need filters changed, probably control adjustments and other minor items. Electric is about the same. If you need more specific information please provide the make, age and fuel type of system you have and if warm air furnace or hot water (hydronic). Should you need to locate a local pro, try the below link to input your zip code or call us at 1-855-707-0141 to get started. https://pro.porch.com/near-me/hvac-companies ... Read more
Appliance Installation

Gas range has to be set aside for kitchen floor install. Then later set back in and reconnected to gas.

Bob: Thank you for contacting Porch. There should be a gas shutoff valve behind the range you can turn off. Then turn on and light a burner to bleed off the gas and the burner should go out. You may then disconnect the gas connector at any point on the range side of the gas shutoff. Once the floor is done reinstall the gas connector and turn on the gas. Check for gas leaks at the point you disconnected it with soapy water for any leaks (bubble indicate leak) and push the range back in. Then light the burners, note it will take a few tries to ignite to bleed out the air. Note if the range has an older brass style connector you might consider replacing it. Or you can contact a plumber to do this for you. You can locate one here: https://pro.porch.com/near-me/plumbers ... Read more

Kris: Thank you for contacting Porch. Most likely there is already a regulator in the range - but you would need to review the installation directions to be sure. Best would be to have a licensed professional determine the gas pressure needed and if the pipe to the furnace is large enough to supply both appliances concurrently. Drain Unclogging

I have a drain that always clog, how to maintain unclogged drain.

Clogs are usually caused by a defect in the drainpipe, such as a poorly sloped area (called a belly) and or rough interior in older pipes. If the drain chronically clogs most likely it needs to be replaced, or at least jetting to clear away nodules that might catch debris. Best is to have a plumber take a look and make a recommendation.
