Today we’re so happy to be chatting on the front porch with Our Southern Home! Christy is a mother, blogger, and DIY-guru who has a passion for all things decorating and Southern charm. Head on over to her blog for some fun DIY projects and tips!
What’s your DIY weapon of choice? Paint brush and chalk paint. It can give new life to a piece of furniture or a thrift store accessory!
If your walls could only be painted one color for the rest of your life, what color would they be? I just painted my dining room with a Benjamin Moore historical color- Carrington Beige (HC-93) and I love it! It’s a wonderful warm neutral. I’ve always loved color, but I’m really leaning more towards neutral walls and furnishings. This allows you the flexibility to change your look easily with pillows, throws, rugs, accessories and wall art. I like the idea of being able to create lighter and airy looks for spring/summer, but warming up in the cooler months. Makes changing up things more affordable!
What are 3 words to describe your blog? French Country Farmhouse
Tell us about a time when you had a DIY fail (we’ve all had them!) Quite a few years ago (before all the online help) I tried to sew pillows with homemade corded trim…..without directions! Major fail that scared me away from making pillows until recently! Amazing all the online help that is out there. Now I’m kind of obsessed with making pillows!
How did you name your blog? I love all things southern being from South Carolina. When I started my blog 2-1/2 years ago I knew that I wanted to share our home and my love of decorating. That is how the relatively simple name came about.
Strangest decoration in your house? I don’t think it is…..I love it! BUT my husband and teens think the faux cow head in our kitchen is strange and ridiculous! What do they know!
Hardest part about blogging? Balancing blog, home and my work as a realtor is challenging. Blogging is a lot of work, but I love it! It allows me to express my creativity. I really try to turn it all off in the evening for family time.
Best part about blogging? The fabulous people and friends that I’ve made along the way!
If your life were a song, what would it be? Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey. Yes I was an 80s teen!
Pinterest or Facebook? I love, love Pinterest, but probably Facebook. I’ve grown a rather large fan base for my blog page. I enjoy sharing so much there. It is also the go to place for communicating with my fellow blogger friends and colleagues.
Last thing you ordered on Amazon? A tartan plaid scarf and a turkey costume. Yep, that’s what my teen daughter went as for Halloween!
What are you exceptionally good at? (Permission to brag) Decorating….it’s a passion!
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve collected? The oddest thing is mortar and pestles. Not so odd is tole trays
Funniest comment you’ve received on your blog? Gosh, that’s a hard one…..probably all those crazy spammer comments. Some are hilarious!
What’s a home trend you hope doesn’t exist in 100 years? Chevron. I tend to decorate my home with classic things that will stand the test of time. If you really want to incorporate a trend like chevron, I suggest going small. Don’t invest in a big way like a rug or chair! Embrace that trend in the form of napkins, pillows or maybe a tray. That way you’re not too financially invested when it is out of style.
Favorite words to live by? You live in your home, don’t make it look like the magazine! Ultimately, while there is inspiration out there, you should decorate with what you love!
