We design with the belief that nothing is impossible, and temper it with good old-fashioned pragmatism, embracing both big ideas and intricate details. Taking into account location, context, and other inherent attributes of a specific project, we strive to create a balanced whole, integrating the structure and the environment. We consider the interplay between inside and outside, light and shadow, aesthetics and utility, carefully selecting materials that harmonize with nature, prioritizing efficiency and sustainability.   | Camano Island Remodel | Jun 2012 | The clients had been living in their classic 1970s home for 12 years when they felt they were ready for an upgrade, but were not willing to give up its great location. The solution was to expand the existing house from a one-story structure with basement media room to a two-story house with an expanded finished basement including a new subterranean wine cellar and a second floor consisting of a generous master suite. This couple love to entertain and often have house guests, so the new master suite was designed to be a more private retreat, providing sanctuary from the more public living area. | Camano Island, WA | |

  | Phinney Ridge Remodel | Jun 2006 | Keeping with the character of the neighborhood was a concern, as well as adding ample light to the upstairs which didnt have enough headspace or light coming through the windows. We wanted to emphasize the view, which looks west to the Olympics, and adding a new stairway leading upstairs to create a full master suite completed the homey and traditional feeling the clients were looking for. The master bathroom contains an old antique mirrored dresser, which the clients had purchased previously, and which tied in nicely with the finishes selected. The kitchen has traditional detailing with subway tiling and wainscoting, and we added a small addition to create a nice eat in area. Enlarging the south facing windows brought in good light, creating a warm atmosphere. | Seattle, WA | |
