One of my favorite holidays of the year is fast approaching, Mother’s Day! As a mama I’m definitely looking forward to being celebrated, but I’m also excited to honor my own mother and those around me! Unfortunately, my mom lives clear across the country, so I am unable to spend the day with her. It also happens that I am an only child so my side of the family is small, but I do enjoy the holiday with my husband’s relatives. We gather with his parents, sister and her family usually at my house. I tend to focus on the meal more than the décor when I host, but this year I made a pretty Mother’s Day Centerpiece using birch bark to dress up the table. It’s in 3 pieces, so I figure each one of them can take one home to have as a keepsake to commemorate the day, while the last piece stays with me!
Spring Centerpiece
To make these rustic beauties all you need is a handful of items from Michaels:
1 Roll of Birch bark
Glue gun and glue sticks
3 Round glass vases
Ribbon
27 Flower stems
(that should be 2 bunches of white tulips from Michaels, or you can use fresh flowers)
Twine
Directions:
Glue two layers of birch bark around the vase, so that there is no glass showing. The birch bark can be a little stiff, so you may have to gently press on it for several seconds to get it to set properly.
Next you can get creative by adding a strip of ribbon around the center, followed by some twine. Add the ribbon and twine to all of the vases or just the one you’ll place in the center, like I did.
Cut the stems of the flowers down to size. Tie a group together with twine (I bought 2 clusters of white tulips with a total of 27 buds, using 9 in each vase).
Randomly place the leaves in each vase, or leave them out completely. I did a little of both!
Place in the center of your dining room table, on a mantel, entry table, or anywhere in your home that could use a little rustic beauty!
This is a great craft for any of the spring holidays, in fact, mine may stay up throughout the summer!
