Splatter Paint Cookies

When your a kid there is something so fun about spattering paint and getting messy, and it’s even sweeter when it’s splatter paint cookies!  These splatter paint cookies were a big hit at our Art Gallery Party and one of the kids favorite activities.

A  few splatter paint cookies were displayed on mini wooden easels on the dessert table, but the real fun was the “blank canvas” cookies the kids decorated at one of the activity stations.  These cookies are perfect for any art themed party and you won’t believe how easy they are to make.

I was pressed for time so I decided to make the cookies from store bough cookie mix, but I hit the jackpot when I found snowman cookie paint kits on clearance for $0.25.  Each kit came with the sugar cookie dough mix, royal icing and edible paint, score!  **Sorry about the picture quality, it was very late at night.**

I whipped up the sugar cookie mix and cut the cookies into rectangle shapes (ideally I would have used a cookie cutter so they would have come out cleaner, but alas this was a last minute idea and I didn’t have a rectangle cookie cutter on hand.)

Next, I spread royal icing on each cookie and left a small border for the “frame” to create the “blank canvas.”

For the “paint” I used food coloring to color the rest of the royal icing.  I thinned down the icing to make it easier to splatter.

With a new paint brush I splattered the colors onto the “blank canvas.”

Step back and admire your edible masterpiece!

I only “splattered” a few of these cookies which were displayed on the dessert table on mini easels.  The rest of the cookies I left as “blank canvases” and put out small containers with the colored icing, the edible paint from the kits and new food safe paint brushes for the kids to create their own splatter paint cookies at the party.  This was a popular station with lots of creative cookies decorated.

Have some messy fun and make splatter paint cookies at your next art themed party…or just for fun!
