Want to give your home a quick makeover but don’t have a big budget? We turned to 4 of our blogger friends to find out the best, easy home upgrades to tackle for the new year. They offer up the best ideas to spruce up your home, that won’t burn a hole in your pocket.
1. The Happy Housie– Furniture Upscale
Meet Krista
Hello! I am Krista. I spend most of my blogging time over at The Happy Housie. I called me blog this because, well, I’m a bit of a housie. Think foodie but for houses. I’m obsessed with all things house-related…. decorating, DIY, crafts, organizing, making old things new again, and even whipping up yummy drinks and easy & delicious recipes. I share all these pursuits and more and would love to have you come by for a visit!
What project would you tackle for the new year? My top DIY project for 2015 is to redo a piece of furniture with paint. Whether it is an old piece you found at a garage sale, or an IKEA hack like this one, I recommend adding some colour and interest to your space with a piece of painted furniture. Nothing brings new life and creates character in a room quite as much as a fun and colorful painted piece like this dresser I revamped with some chalky based paint. Add some beautiful new knobs, and voila. You’ve created an instant feature for your room, and done it on a budget!

2. Simply {Darr}ling– Wall Gallery
Meet Kendra
Simply {Darr}ling features the projects and adventures of Kendra and her husband Brad. It has a wide variety of posts, such as crafts, recipes, DIY projects and travels.
What project would you tackle for the new year? A blank wall is just screaming to become a gallery for all of your adventures over the past few years. The collages in this gallery wall are a perfect way to use that favorite family photo from holiday cards and also take some time to organize photos from life and travels over the previous year. Check out my post to find out how to make a gallery wall that is easy to update and fun to show off your favorite photos!

Meet Brittany

What project would you tackle for the new year? With the new year in full swing and a head full of new ideas and projects on the horizon, it’s about time I designated a space at home to stay organized and inspired. The new year always marks the perfect time to wipe the slate clean; pull out a new notebook, dust off the far corners of your desk, sharpen your pencils and even clean up your inspiration boards! I’ve decided to designate a space at home that will promote creativity and keep me organized, as there is a lot to come in this new year!

4. A Golden Afternoon– Painted Flooring
Meet Bonnie
Bonnie Rush, of A Golden Afternoon, seeks to share the simplicity and goodness found in everyday life, including good food, comfortable design, and rich conversation. Creating a home filled with beautiful projects and recipes made with your own hands is something you can learn to do too. Inspiration is waiting.
What project would you tackle for the new year? The best kinds of projects, for me, involve an amazing visual change, while not costing much and only requiring minimal skill. Who doesn’t like to spend less and get more? That, my friends, is the best formula for a do-it-yourself project. Painting cement flooring is one of those huge transformations that will leave you with a smile at the end of the project. Besides a fresh look, the benefits of this flooring include less dust and dirt in the air from carpet, which means… improved breathing! Using the tricks I share in this post, I believe this DIY project is the kind you can tackle whenever you’re ready! The only problem will be deciding which room to start with!
